Not enough time for a long walk? Heading to Springwood Conservation Park is one of the best options near Brisbane if you woke up late with nothing organised but still want a small dose of nature and exercise. It’s also one of the best things to do in Logan to spend some time in nature after a shopping trip to IKEA.

Of course, it’s not as impressive and lush as the famous national parks a bit further out of Brisbane. If you have more than a few hours before sunset, you may want to drive all the way to the Scenic Rim, or even Lamington National Park or Springbrook National Park.

But the rocks and interpretation signs along the paths of Springwood Conservation Park add something a bit special to this short walk in the forest.

You won’t need to pack anything else but shoes and a water bottle. After less than 45 minutes in the car, you’ll be walking in the forest of Springwood Conservation Park.

We took the Spur Track from the Springwood Road entry to reach the one-kilometre Gorge Discovery Circuit and added a 400-metre detour to the Stringybark Lookout. The Gorge Discovery Circuit is the main walking track in the park and unless you cannot climb steps, the best way to spend time there.

I recommend doing the circuit anti-clockwise (by following the arrows); it requires fewer efforts as you’ll go down the steps and back up with a gradual slope. If you’re up for a challenge, go the other way around and tackle the 130-something stairs up. It took us less than 45 minutes at a very slow leisurely pace.
