Plovdiv or Sofia? I trusted my local friend and went sightseeing in Plovdiv. Plovdiv is the oldest continually inhabited city in Europe and it will be the 2019 European Capital of Culture. Impressive, but that’s not even why I chose to do sightseeing Plovdiv over Sofia when I went to Bulgaria.
The stunning natural beauty all around Lake Abant is a perfect way to relax and refresh the mind for a day or a weekend out of the city.
Cappadocia region is very singular and I still have never seen anything comparable to its unusual landscape. The fairy chimneys are not the only specialty of the region: take time to explore the troglodytic houses and cathedrals, the underground cities, and try some Turkish wine!
Aphrodisias are known to have some of the most impressive Roman ruins of Turkey. I have even read on a blog this visit was more interesting than the famous Ephesus, mostly because it was less crowded.
Pamukkale’s petrified waterfalls are stunning. These formations are as bizarre as beautiful. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Turkey.
From my guidebook: “even if you don’t visit the East of Turkey, Nemrut Dagi is not to be missed”. That was enough to convince me to book a trip to the top of Mount Nemrut.
