We were having a fantastic weekend around Mount Barney and were not ready to end it just yet. So we decided to explore a bit the Scenic Rim Wine Trail on our way back to Brisbane. We chose to stop at Kooroomba as we were intrigued by the description on the brochure. We don’t often get to visit a lavender farm in Brisbane!

Brisbane Lavender Farm Kooroomba Scenic Rim

With a lavender farm in the vineyard, Kooroomba vineyards promise a taste of French Provence on the Scenic Rim.

We focused on visiting villages when we were in the South of France and totally missed the opportunity to check out the lavender fields in Provence!

So we were excited to get this opportunity at a Brisbane lavender farm, and it didn’t disappoint. It ended up being the perfect destination to end our great gateway to Mount Barney. We loved the views of the many peaks of the Scenic Rim region (easy to identify with the PeakFinder app). The extra special touch of lavender created a unique atmosphere.

With some vines in the background, we could imagine being in Provence – if it wasn’t for the kangaroo jumping around to make sure the photos looked like Australia. It’s always a pleasure to spot iconic Australian wildlife in the wild.

The lavender farm offers fantastic photo opportunities and you’ll get a chance to buy products directly from the producer. But there aren’t the only reasons to go there. There are also food and wine tasting experiences awaiting at Kooroomba Lavender Farm.

What’s on the menu at the Lavender Farm

On our first visit, the sophisticated menu was a great surprise with plenty of choices full of originality. We all had to try in each other’s plates as we were intrigued by what we were eating and discovering new tastes. We were pleased to see many local products featured.

I loved how we could find the lavender on the menu too: in the lavender tea-smoked confit duck leg or the backed potato with lavender honey mustard seed dressing for example.

I was charmed, and I will visit again. If you’re looking for a romantic place near Brisbane for a lunch date, this could be the one.

The food was delicious and well presented, in such a lovely setting – what else could we ask for?

They only had risotto and soup as vegetarian options when we last visited, but offered many gluten-free options.

The wine tasting experience at Kooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm

They have grapes growing on the property, but they don’t use them to make their wine. After visiting the Granite Belt and Mount Tamborine wineries, we were happy to try other local wines in Queensland. Although I won’t put them at the top of my list of favourite wines, they were easy to drink.

But we found the wine tasting experience a bit too quick. We could only try four wines, and we regretted the lack of expertise and passion from the staff.

However, it was perfect to kill time as we were waiting for a table at the restaurant. They get busy during weekends, so it’s better to make a booking if you plan your visit in advance.

When is the best time to visit a lavender farm in Brisbane?

The best time to visit a Brisbane Lavender Farm is from May to October. That’s when lavender usually blooms, so the fields should be very pretty at this season!

But it’s still worth going to Kooroomba Vineyards outside this season. They have six different varieties of lavender including one from France that flowers all year round. Plus, whatever the season, the food is delicious and the views stay beautiful.

Make sure you always call to check if they are open before visiting. Weekends can be very busy and they sometimes close for events – it’s a popular wedding spot!
